Simon Jordan: Everton landscape unchanged despite win v Arsenal
By Mark Murphy
Former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan spoke on talkSPORT on Tuesday about the importance of Everton’s win against Arsenal on Monday night.
Jordan discussed how the win gives both Everton and its fans hope. Furthermore, he added that every win is a chance to rebuild from, considering Everton’s dreadful form leading into the game. “It doesn’t alter the landscape”, “but it does give them hope”.
The win sees the Toffees move into 12th place and eight points away from the relegation zone. Considering that going into the clash both sides were polar opposites in terms of form. Everton will have been delighted with not just the win, but the overall performance put in.
As for Arsenal, they had really recovered after a rough start to their league campaign. If anything, that result and performance at Goodison Park was very reminiscent of how they were at the start of the season.
Jordan was incredibly critical of the Arsenal performance, describing them as “poor” and “lacklustre”. He quipped, “If you’re Everton you want to play Arsenal every week.”
Additionally, in his criticism of the Gunners he said from an Everton perspective, “What it did tell you was how poor Everton must’ve been to be going in behind against Arsenal, irrespective of VAR decisions going against them.”
Despite Arsenal’s underwhelming display last night, the Toffees still got a result. Not just that, but they played well in the process and were certainly unlucky with some of the VAR decisions. Victory against a side who were in strong form leading into this match could give Everton the lift they need.
Also, there is still not much distance between them and the drop but extending the gap to eight points is a big step in the right direction. A busy Christmas period awaits and Rafa Benitez will be aiming to pick up as many points as possible.
