Sky Sports pundit blasts Alex Iwobi for miss in Everton 2-1 v Arsenal

Everton attacker Alex Iwobi missed a chance to put his side 3-1 up against Arsenal during Monday’s clash, and Stephen Warnock was not impressed.

The Goodison Park outfit ran out 2-1 winners against the Gunners at home yesterday (6 December), but the Nigerian international squandered an opportunity to put the icing on the cake, and the Sky Sports pundit insisted on the World Feed that it only summed up his Toffees career.

Iwobi, 25, came off the bench against his old team, and Richarlison’s pass left him one-on-one with Aaron Ramsdale, but he could only hit his effort straight at the onrushing Arsenal goalkeeper.

Warnock said while on commentary duties on Premier League productions: “Sums up his Everton career till date, really.”

Absolutely

Iwobi joined the Blues from Arsenal for £35million in the summer of 2019 on a five-year deal, and it is safe to say he is one of the reasons why Marcel Brands was forced to leave the club.

He has only scored three Premier League goals since, and his time on Merseyside has been underwhelming, to say the least.

A return of six goals in 80 games across all competitions for Everton does not do the huge fee spent on him any justice, and it is not surprising that Rafa Benitez opted to start Anthony Gordon ahead of him for Monday’s game.

The ex-Arsenal man has started six games and come off the bench six times in the league this term, but he will not be getting himself back in Benitez’s good books with performances like the one we saw against his former side.

Iwobi has been very inconsistent in the Everton colours, and his miss last night was indeed a perfect summary of his career at Goodison Park up.
