Barcelona goalkeeper Neto open to Everton move in January

Reported Everton target Neto is keeping a close eye on developments at Goodison Park, according to Sport.

The same outlet reported in August that the Toffees wanted to sign the Barcelona goalkeeper, who is keen to leave the Camp Nou.

The Brazilian has made just two appearances for the Catalan giants this season, acting as understudy to Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Sport claim that Neto is “very attentive to changes that may be in Everton’s goal” as he eyes up a January exit.

The report adds that Barcelona are “open to listening to proposals from the majority of its players” as their financial problems continue.

Not happening

This was a strange rumour in the summer and it is just as bizarre now.

Everton will not be in the market for a new goalkeeper in January, with Jordan Pickford safely assured of number one status at Goodison Park.

The England international has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur though [The Telegraph], so perhaps that it was the report means by the suggestion that Neto is “attentive” to what is happening on Merseyside.

The 32-year-old may seem himself as Pickford’s successor, but Everton would surely look at better, and probably younger, targets if their shot stopper did leave.

The Toffees would likely receive a significant fee for Pickford, which would give them money to play with when finding a replacement; they would not need to rely on a cut-price deal for an unwanted and out of favour Barcelona player.

Neto has played just 11 league games since signing for Barca from Valencia in 2019, keeping a clean sheet in only four of those appearances.

In other Everton news, one Toffees man is set for another spell on the sidelines after suffering an injury against Arsenal.
