Gini Wijnaldum would be perfect for Everton

Everton are interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum ahead of the January transfer window.

According to a recent report from 90 min, the Toffees have been approached by the representatives of Wijnaldum.

The 31-year-old joined the French giants in the summer on a free transfer, but he has failed to nail down a regular starting role under Mauricio Pochettino.

Wijnaldum is getting increasingly worried about his lack of game time, and he wants to leave PSG in January. Everton could face competition from Newcastle, but Rafa Benitez must secure his signature at the earliest.

Leaving aside the Liverpool connection, Wijnaldum divides opinion among the fans. However, there are a few things to consider.

He has been a regular member under Jurgen Klopp’s side, and that is not possible if he has been bang average. Jamie Redknapp has hailed him previously as a “fantastic” player.

He is a Premier League and a Champions League winner, and has a lot of football left in him.

In his last season at Liverpool, he was one of their driving forces in an injury-hit team. His consistency, durability, and his sharp movements make him a must-buy-player in January.

With Abdoulaye Doucoure operating as a box-to-box midfielder, Wijnaldum could replicate a similar role to what he used to do at Liverpool – that is retaining possession and orchestrating the midfield.

The Dutch international would also come at a reasonable price. He would be a smart signing and would be perfect for the Toffees.
