Everton shareholder wants Rafa Benitez sacked and Wayne Rooney hired

Mike Parry wants Everton to sack Rafa Benitez and hire Derby County’s Wayne Rooney as their new manager.

Everton slumped back into their losing ways on Sunday evening as Crystal Palace beat them 3-1 at Selhurst Park.

After the match, former talkSPORT broadcaster Parry, who says he’s an independent shareholder at Goodison, took to his personal Twitter account to call for a change in leadership.

“To all Everton fans: I am one of few independent shareholders of our mighty club,” he said.

“I hate it where we are.

“If I make a representation to the board that we should exit Rafa Benitez and appoint Wayne Rooney as our new manager with [Duncan Ferguson] already in place, would you support me?”

Rooney?

Rooney, 36, is in charge of Derby, who are bottom of the Championship and while that’s because of point deductions, surely we’re better than that?

We’ve had Champions League-winning managers in charge and we’ve had rookie managers in charge. Are they working – absolutely not.

The problems at Goodison go beyond the management. The recruitment has been woeful for years and Farhad Moshiri and Bill Kenwright need to take a lot of the blame themselves for what has been a woefully under-productive few years.

We take one step forward and about 50 steps backwards and that’s got to change.

Is sacking Benitez and hiring Rooney going to fix those deep-set issues at Goodison? No, they won’t.

Sure, some fans will be pleased to see a former player returning to Goodison Park but Rooney’s just about doing a decent job at Pride Park in the Championship.

It would be a massive risk but some people might just support sacking Benitez and not care who comes in, as getting rid of Rafa is all that matters to many fans.
