BBC MotD man moots Duncan Ferguson and Wayne Rooney reunion to replace Rafa Benitez at Everton
BBC and Premier League presenter Will Perry has mooted the possibility of replacing Rafa Benitez with Wayne Rooney at Everton.
Speaking in a video posted on the Betfair Twitter account (14 December), the Match of the Day reporter asked: “What about the prospect of Wayne Rooney and Big Dunc [Duncan Ferguson]?”
“Ooh,” Alan McInally replied.

Perry: “I’m sure there’s a lot of Everton fans out there who would take that right now. They never wanted Rafa in the first place.
“Would you take Wayne Rooney over Rafa right now?”
Leave sentiment in the past
For too long now, Everton have been harking back to their former glories and clambering after former players to rejoin the club in various guises.
But events have changed recently – now there are questions being asked and long-time chairman Bill Kenwright has also come under pressure.
A fresh approach is desired, and that means out with the old, and in with the new.
That doesn’t mean everyone has to leave – Ferguson could still be a trusty lieutenant to a new manager at the club.
Rooney, meanwhile, would be a divisive appointment at Goodison.
He broke out as a 16-year-old alongside Ferguson at Everton before leaving for Manchester United under a cloud in 2004, though he did return for a one-season swansong at the beginning of the 2017/18 campaign, which repaired a few bridges.
England’s record goalscorer is currently managing Derby County, who sit rock-bottom of the Championship, though a points deduction has severely hampered their progress.
Rooney is doing an admirable job, but he hasn’t shown that he warrants the Everton job, particularly to replace someone as experienced as Benitez.
In other Everton news, Newcastle are plotting a January deal for this Blues star and £17.1million will seal the deal.
