Everton warned that Aberdeen don’t need to sell Calvin Ramsay

Everton have been warned by Aberdeen chairman Dave Cormack that they do not have to sell players in January, amid interest in defender Calvin Ramsay.

The Toffees have been linked with the teenage right-back, whose form has seen him tipped to leave Scotland this winter with a host of Premier League clubs interested.

However club chairman Cormack has gone on record to state that while it’s possible that a transfer could happen it will only be on Aberdeen’s terms as the club do not need to sell players for cash.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Cormack was very open about the situation regarding Ramsay but remained firm on his stance that they won’t be bullied into a sale.

“Look at the data and all the clubs look at the same (scouting) systems. He is in the elite upper bracket, right up there, for a young right-back in Europe.

“People are seeing that and that is why we believe there will be a lot of interest, although we have not had a call from anybody yet. We haven’t had any contact from any clubs in any of our young players, Calvin Ramsay or otherwise.

“The window is coming up so we will see. Calvin has been out injured and it might be another two to three weeks before he is back, I don’t know.

“Players will go if it is right for them and the club as well.

“We don’t need to sell players in January, I can tell you that right now.

“In saying that, if the right price comes along for the right player and we have the ability to replace that player then it is something we would look at.

“We certainly don’t need to sell players in January and we won’t be encouraging any last-minute window approaches for the sake of us being unable to replace players.”

Top young prospect

Ramsay has earned a reputation as one of the best young British full-backs around right now, registering four assists in nine appearances this season before picking up an injury in October.

Defensively there is plenty of room for him to learn and develop, but going forward he is excellent and would look to be a great long-term replacement for the ageing Seamus Coleman.

A fast dribbler with a good final ball and comfort in tight spaces on the ball, Ramsay has all the attributes to be a success in the Premier League and a mid-season move would allow him time to adapt before playing more regularly.

With so many injury problems this season, added depth is something Everton should certainly be interested in and Ramsay would represent a great value signing for the future and present.
