Everton must rekindle interest in Weston McKennie in January

Everton should look to reignite their interest in Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie in the January transfer window.

The Toffees showed a strong interest in the player during the summer transfer window and Italian publication TuttoSport claimed that they had tabled a bid for him.

The deal didn’t materialise as Everton operated on a tight budget.

Rafa Benitez is unlikely to be given a huge transfer budget in January, but the Toffees should look to strike a deal here, even if it’s on loan with a view to a permanent move.

While signing a striker and a set of full-backs are top priorities for Benitez, the Toffees should also look to bolster their midfield as well.

Andre Gomes, when fit, can be a lethal weapon, but he is far from being consistent. Tom Davies is yet to make a strong impact under Benitez, and an upgrade is needed.

Why McKennie? First of all, he is struggling for game time, and could be lured away with the offer of regular first football team football.

Secondly, he is a player who can play in multiple positions in midfield. He can also play as a right-back. Probably that is why Everton wanted to sign him in the first place back in summer.

His situation in Turin hasn’t improved, and before any other club jump on him, the Toffees must act at the earliest, and get his signature done.
