Everton left-back Lucas Digne is reluctant to join Newcastle

Everton left-back Lucas Digne is reluctant to join Newcastle United in the January window, according to Sportsmail.

The France international, 28, has emerged as a potential target for the Magpies following his fall out with Rafa Benitez, but is waiting on other clubs firming up interest.

Juventus, Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are among those monitoring developments, and with the Toffees set to bring in Dynamo Kyiv left-back Vitaliy Mykolenko, 22, as a replacement, it is expected that Digne will leave Goodison Park next month.

Blow on the cards?

The former Barcelona left-back is apparently not short of suitors, but it appears that Newcastle are very serious about signing him when the winter transfer window opens.

The billionaire-owned club – currently the wealthiest on the planet – cannot afford to relegate, and while they are ready to splash the cash, Digne has reservations over joining a team that could be spending 2022-23 in the Championship.

That could prove to be a blow in the end if other suitors are unable to agree to terms of a deal with Everton and the player.

Benitez clearly wants him out of Goodison, but Digne wants the best for himself, and that could affect his chances of leaving in January.

Most clubs prefer to do their businesses in the summer, and it will be interesting to see how things go.

A return to PSG is definitely appealing, but left-back is not a position that is in urgent need of strengthening at Parc des Princes right now.

Digne does not have any choice than to leave the Toffees next month as he will likely not play if he does not, and he could be forced to settle for Newcastle in the end.

In other Everton news, the Toffees are plotting January loan-to-buy bid for centre-mid hailed by Jack Grealish last month.
