Everton agree instalments for Vitaliy Mykolenko as FFP watches closely – report

Everton are only one week away from confirming their first signing of the January window with Vitaliy Mykolenko set to arrive.

The Athletic has reported that the Toffees have raised some eyebrows by agreeing to a £20million deal with Dynamo Kyiv.

It is shared that Everton will pay that fee in large instalments, with the Financial Fair Play rules watching closely.

The Athletic suggest that the Toffees believe they have some wriggle room to play with regarding the FFP rules after selling the likes of James Rodriguez.

Further reductions are expected across the club, but paying in instalments throughout the length of Mykolenko’s contract will certainly help.

Lucas Digne and his rift with Rafa Benitez has been made evidently clear by this move, with it looking like an out-and-out replacement.

This report suggests that the future of the Frenchman at Goodison Park is in “serious” doubt following the expected move.

Good to hear?

It’s hard to suggest that this is brilliant from the Toffees.

On one hand, it is good to see that with Digne likely to leave, a replacement has been found imminently and we can move forward.

On the other, Everton have now spent a large chunk of money and will have the exact same problems they had while Digne was playing every single week at left-back.

They still have no depth behind either full-back and the final third is incredibly weak due to constant injuries.

Throwing cash at things isn’t the answer, but could this move for Mykolenko mean that there is no money left to solve any of those other issues next month?

Benitez will hope so, but with the FFP rulings tight, this could be all we see next month and it looks set to be announced on the first of the month.
