Everton want to sign Sampdoria defender Omar Colley in January

Everton want to sign Sampdoria defender Omar Colley in the upcoming January window, according to TEAMtalk.

The online outlet shared on their website that the Gambian international is set to be away at the African Cup of Nations for most of the next two months.

Despite not being available, it is suggested that isn’t putting off the likes of Everton from making their move.

Competition looks as though it is going to be stiff as we enter the window.

Premier League rivals Leeds and Newcastle are both said to be watching developments closely, and both want a move in January too.

Colley signed a new long-term contract at Sampdoria this year, extending his stay until 2025 in the Serie A.

Despite that, it looks like nothing is going to stop the Toffees and their rivals from looking to get a move over the line next month.

No sense?

Colley may bring brilliant experience to Goodison Park, but the truth is, this move would make no sense whatsoever next month.

Rafa Benitez needs players who can make an immediate impact to his squad, and not having the Gambian enforcer available instantly would be a waste.

With exit rumours going wild on Yerry Mina, the Colombian will need replacing, and by someone who can fill that gap straight away.

Colley may not be that man, and it would be smart to look elsewhere to not waste any money- especially given how tight the Financial Fair Play rules are.
