GN View: Manuel Lanzini would be gamble signing for Everton

Everton are looking to add a few players in the transfer market as Rafa Benitez wants to sculpt the squad to his own taste.

According to a recent report from TEAMtalk, the Toffees are showing keen interest in Argentine attacking midfielder Manuel Lanzini.

It seems the West Ham midfielder is in demand in January, with the likes of Newcastle, Aston Villa, Leeds and Southampton all being linked.

West Ham have rebuffed all enquires as of now, and it will be interesting to see if any of these clubs come up with a concrete offer.

Lanzini has a contract at the club till 2023, so the Hammers could also look to offload him now and get a decent fee from his sale.

The Argentine has been in decent form this season, managing 19 appearances already in all competitions. He has scored three goals and has put in some solid performances.

Benitez wants to add depth in his attacking midfield areas, and he is probably looking at a versatile midfielder who has got loads of Premier League experience. In that regard, Lanzini fits the bill.

Lanzini struggled with his fitness for a while, but it seems he is gradually returning to his best form.

Having said that, his signing would still be seen as a gamble.

Despite joining the club in 2016, he has not always been the first choice in the team in recent years.

Lanzini can come up with moments of sublime quality and brilliance. Declan Rice hailed him as an “excellent” player, but there’s a big question mark over his consistency.

It remains to be seen whether Benitez would be willing to take a gamble on him next month when the window reopens.
