View: Everton to be handed perfect boost after 2 postponements

Could the postponement of two – and counting – fixtures give Everton some vital rest bite to get their season back on track?

The Toffees have been afforded a 10-day break over Christmas, last taking to the field on December 17 when their much-changed side held Chelsea to a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Newcastle’s trip to Goodison Park on December 30 is Everton’s next fixture but it is difficult to say which games will go ahead during the ongoing spike in corona cases in the Premier League.

The Blues’ winter break could help them pick up some momentum as they look to turn around their fortunes in the second half of the season.

Rejuvenate

You could argue that several teams have been able to squeeze in periods of rest and recovery during the postponement of games and whilst this is true, it may not have the impact it does for Everton.

It gives the Blues more time to get key players back from injury. Star striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is closing in on his return and an extra couple of weeks in training could help him come back firing after several months out.

Benitez is also waiting for Richarlison, Townsend, Mina and Davies to make a return and the less games they have to play without these players the better.

The break also allows them to mentally refresh. Despite a win versus Arsenal and a depleted 11 stealing a point at Goodison, Everton’s form has dropped in the approach to Christmas, leaving them sitting in 15thplace.

By the next time they are scheduled to play they could have a 13-day spell away from playing. More than enough time to come back well rested and ready to go.

In other Everton news, Everton could make loan bid for Philippe Coutinho.
