Everton compile transfer dossier on Aberdeen right-back Calvin Ramsay

Everton would likely be made to pay over £3million to sign young right-back Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen, according to Press & Journal.

The Scottish newspaper reports on their website that Everton and Manchester United have scouted the 18-year-old, who’s also been monitored by Liverpool, Norwich and Southampton.

It is understood that the Blues have been readying a move for Ramsay by compiling a transfer dossier on him and Aberdeen are braced for bids for the Scotland Under-21 international when the January transfer window opens tomorrow (Saturday).

Press & Journal adds that Aberdeen’s current record sale is £3million and it would probably take more than that for a Premier League club to lure Ramsay away from Pittodrie in January.

Right-back addition

If we can’t get Nathan Patterson from Rangers, then the next best young Scottish right-back will do, right?

It’s a bit uninspiring if this is Everton’s approach to transfers.

Patterson is clearly the best young right-back in Scotland and one of the best in British football having already broken into Steve Clarke’s national squad.

Ramsay is a good player and a couple of years younger. But the difference in quality between playing for Aberdeen and playing for Rangers is huge.

Ramsay has shown he’s capable of getting involved in the attacking third this season with the youngster assisting eight goals in 19 appearances across all competitions.

Four of those assists came in Aberdeen’s unsuccessful Europa Conference League qualifying campaign but a couple of them have been against Celtic and Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership.

Dons manager Stephen Glass, as quoted by FourFourTwo, has said Ramsay has been “brilliant” since breaking into the first-team at Pittodrie.

It’s hard to argue with that but is he good enough to get into Rafa Benitez’s senior squad at Goodison Park?

If we’re tight on funds, we might have to explore this avenue. But we’d rather see Patterson come in.

In other Everton news, Benitez is increasingly likely to sacrifice this star player in January.
