Coutinho offered to Everton with January move in motion

Everton have been given the chance to sign former Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho in January with Barcelona keen to move the Brazilian on, according to Daily Mail journalist Dominic King.

The offer is on the table from Spain for Coutinho to become Everton’s second January signing after Vitaly Mykolenko was signed on Saturday. But Rafael Benitez is yet to admit his interest publicly in the Barca star.

Fan reaction to the signing, should it happen, could be mixed given the Brazilian’s time at Merseyside rivals Liverpool.

Genius on his day

The Spanish giants are still attempting to fix the financial damage left from previous years despite signing Manchester City forward Ferran Torres.

But Coutinho is one of the club’s highest earners and the club need to see the 29-year-old leave to relieve pressure on the club’s wage budget.

A return to Merseyside, albeit in the Blue corner, could be the much-needed move that revives Coutinho’s career.

Since his move to Barcelona for £146million in 2018, Coutinho has failed to hit the same heights he did at Liverpool and a loan move to Bayern Munich did little to reignite the spark.

This could be because he was the main man at Anfield and he seemed to thrive under the pressure but he was always a secondary star at Barcelona and Bayern.

A player of Coutinho’s calibre demands attention and being the main attraction, as he would be at Everton, is just the pick me up he needs.

A deal is still some way from being agreed and other clubs could express interest if the same offer is given to clubs in Italy and Germany.

In other Everton news, the club are on alert as this Premier League contract rebel is set for talks over his future.
