GN View: Everton could suffer transfer blow in Kieran Trippier race
Everton could face a big transfer blow in the race to sign Atletico Madrid defender Kieran Trippier in January.
According to reports from The Athletic, Newcastle United have made a formal bid for Trippier, but Atletico are unlikely to accept that offer.
The report says that “Trippier is understood to have all but agreed to the deal himself”, however, clauses relating to what would happen if Newcastle get relegated are yet to be resolved.

Earlier this month (10 December), 90 Min reported that Everton are willing to make a move for the former Tottenham Hotspur defender in January.
However, it seems the Toffees have suffered defeat in the race, although he would have been a fantastic signing for the club.
Everton today (1 January) have announced the signing of Vitaliy Mykolenko from Dynamo Kiev on a four-and-a-half-year deal, but signing a right-back is equally important.
Trippier, who won the La Liga title last season, is a vastly experienced defender who can play in multiple positions.

Capable of playing at both right and back roles, Benitez could have easily got 2-3 best years out of him.
Eddie Howe has made him a priority signing, and the Magpies will push their limit to sign him. Everton, with financial constraints, can hardly afford to do that.
Sky Sports journalist Alan Myers has hinted that there could be more signings to follow this month, and it remains to be seen whether the Toffees can sign another full-back.
In other Everton news, a Premier League defender could be following Mykolenko to Goodison Park.
