Sunderland striker ‘gutted’ after Everton loanee injury blow
Everton loanee Nathan Broadhead has been dealt an untimely setback in his development with a hamstring injury ruling him out for three months.
While it’s not good news for the Toffees, it will hit Sunderland even harder given the 23-year-old’s star performances in League One this season.
His teammate at the Black Cats, Ross Stewart (who is the league’s top scorer with 15 goals), couldn’t hide his disappointment at the news talking to the Sunderland Echo.

“When I heard about the injury the first thing I thought was I was gutted for him personally because he was playing really well and was on fire scoring six in six,” Stewart said.
“It was obviously really disappointing for Nath as I know how well he was doing and I was close to him and know how gutted he was with his injury.
“At the same time, I’m sure he will do the rehab and will come back stronger.
“If he comes back before the end of the season hopefully that partnership can develop again.”
Season Not Over
While three months on the sidelines will see him miss much of Sunderland’s season, Broadhead can be encouraged that he still has time to return to the pitch this season.
The League One season ends in April and with the Mackems flying high at the top of the league, there is every chance the Welsh international could end 2021-22 with a promotion to his name.

Whether that comes as champions or automatically is obviously too early to say as we tick over into 2022 but their recent demolition of Sheffield Wednesday suggests that they could be hard to catch when they’re on form.
Everton manager Rafael Benitez should be very pleased with Broadhead’s season so far not only by his individual performances but through his link-up play with his temporary teammates.
Stewart, 25, utilises a very similar play style to Toffees frontman Dominic Calvert-Lewin by combining exceptional aerial ability with a potent finishing instinct.
His partnership with Broadhead will have certainly piqued the interest of Everton’s hierarchy as they plan for next season.
In other Everton news, Benitez has given a hint at his January business.
