Cenk Tosun reveals January transfer window intentions

Cenk Tosun has revealed that he has no interest in leaving Everton this winter despite interest from Besiktas in Turkey and others.

The Turkey international striker joined the Toffees in January 2018 but struggled to cement a first-team place after Sam Allardyce left his job as manager the following summer.

After some failed loan spells elsewhere, Tosun is with the first-team at Goodison Park once again this season but has featured for just six minutes as he enters the final six months of his contract.

There had been reports from Sabah that Tosun had agreed a deal with Besiktas to return this January, but speaking to Fanatik he has now denied those rumours and says he has no intention of leaving.

“I have no intention of returning at the moment.

“My contract ends at the end of the season. Beşiktaş is my home anyway. But for now, I have no intention or position to return.

“However, I want to finish this season here and go somewhere at the end of the season.”

Flop

After signing for the club for £27m, Tosun has turned out to be a total flop in England and nobody will be sad to see the back of him.

Everton’s priorities in the transfer window are likely to include a striker because the player isn’t involved in the manager’s plans, but even then he is behind youth prospects in the pecking order.

Tosun should return to Turkey at the earliest convenience, but it’s likely that this is a financial stance on his behalf.

The belief is that Everton wanted whoever took him in January to either pay a fee or cover his wages for the remainder of his deal and since Besiktas weren’t willing to, Tosun is just going to wait out the rest of his deal before making the move in the summer.

Everton would be better off cutting their losses and letting him go now, but if he is to stay then they could do worse than using him every now and then to get some value for the money they’re spending.
