Andros Townsend addresses Everton fans amid form crisis
Andros Townsend has delivered a message to Everton fans admitting ‘everyone’s frustrated’ after a poor run of form for the Blues.
Rafa Benitez’ side took a step in the right direction after beating Hull City 3-2 in the FA Cup third round yesterday (January 9).
It was hard work for the Toffees who won thanks to a Townsend goal from distance during extra time.
Speaking to Liverpool ECHO, the winger addressed Everton’s problems, he said: “If we can cut out the conceding early we can beat teams.
“We just have to keep going, keep believing, keep working hard in training – and I’m sure we can get there.”
He added “The fans have a right to be frustrated. We’re frustrated, the manager’s frustrated, everyone’s frustrated.
“We want to be doing better than we are at the moment so we understand their frustrations. But when we get on the pitch we have to put that to one side and fight for everything we get.”
Next round
The Blues advance to the fourth round, that’s the most important thing. They do love to make hard work of it though. Going one nil down and having to win it in extra time is typical of Everton but it would have made a great FA Cup away day for the fans.
Yes, it was against Championship opposition, the Toffees could and maybe should have lost and we won it in extra time in a performance that really wasn’t the best, but we won, that’s all that matters.
You can’t be picky with which games you win when Everton have only won two of their last 13.
There were certainly positives to take from the game. Vitaliy Mykolenko looked very sharp on his debut which will fill the fans with confidence, he looked really calm and clearly has ability on the ball.
Nathan Patterson also making the bench was also encouraging to see. The two new signings as well as what other business the Blues might complete by the end of the window show real intent for the remainder of the season.
