Everton unlikely to sign El Ghazi from Aston Villa as part of Digne deal
Everton will not be signing Aston Villa winger Anwar El Ghazi as part of a swap deal in Lucas Digne’s imminent move to Villa Park.
According to Sky Sports editor Alan Myers, the Toffees will not land the Netherlands international from the sale of Digne.
This comes after Fabrizio Romano suggested that the club are pursuing the services of the 26-year-old ahead of Digne’s eventual exit.
Myers wrote, via his personal Twitter account, “Not heard that myself tbh”, replying to a fan who asked about a potential swap.
Need better players
El Ghazi has been a perennial hit and miss player for the Birmingham outfit and not one Everton should look at.
If Villa let him leave for a club that’s competing with them for table positions, it suggests that they do not rate him too highly himself.
He wasn’t a regular starter under Dean Smith and there’s nothing that suggests Steven Gerrard is the biggest fan either.

Philippe Coutinho’s signing puts him further down the pecking order and he himself could be eyeing an exit this month.
Everton need to sign a player of Coutinho’s calibre and not El Ghazi’s, if they are to challenge for a top-ten finish.
They require a player who’s got the experience of playing in the Champions League and winning trophies as that kind of mentality is currently lacking inside the dressing room.
In other Everton news, the club want to sign a player labelled ‘Excellent’ by Cristiano Ronaldo with the European club keen on cashing in.
