Lucas Digne ‘impressed’ with Aston Villa as deal edges closer – report
Lucas Digne is ‘impressed’ by potential new club Aston Villa as a transfer away from Everton edges nearer, according to Graeme Bailey.
Digne has been on the periphery at Goodison Park after a fall-out with manager Rafa Benitez saw him left out of the squad and ask for a transfer away.
It was revealed on Sunday (January 9) that Aston Villa are closing in on a deal for the France international and have entered advanced negotiations over a deal [Sky Sports].

Following on from that, 90min journalist Graeme Bailey has claimed on his Twitter account that Digne has been ‘impressed’ by Villa and that his team are now discussing personal terms with the Midlands side.
Bailey also says that while Digne ‘wanted Chelsea move’, it has become clear they weren’t going to meet Everton’s demands to get a deal done.
Inevitable
It was inevitable that a transfer would take place this winter, especially after the comments from Benitez that revealed the player asked for a move away.
The fallout between the two was unfortunate, but once a player has decided he needs to leave there is little that can be done and it’s almost always in the best interests of the club to let the player go.
Everton have already brought in Vitaly Mykolenko as a replacement at left-back, while Nathan Patterson has also joined from Rangers.
Benitez can now look forward to building his own squad at the club and try to turn their season around, with just one win in 12 Premier League games.
They secured their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup most recently though, with Andros Townsend’s screamer in extra-time earning them a 3-2 win over Hull.
