Everton defender Lucas Digne set to have Aston Villa medical later today

Everton defender Lucas Digne is set to leave the club and join Aston Villa, with his medical scheduled for today (January 12), per Fabrizio Romano.

The Sky Sports journalist claims that the two clubs have reached an agreement on the transfer fee and personal terms have also been agreed upon.

It’s believed that the Toffees will receive £22.5million initially from the Frenchman’s sale.

Via his personal Twitter account, Romano wrote, “Lucas Digne to Aston Villa from Everton, here we go! Agreement reached for €27m fee. Permanent move. Personal terms agreed today morning.

“Digne is now travelling to Birmingham and will undergo his medical today. Another big one for Gerrard after Philippe Coutinho.”

Bargain fee

The Toffees were initially looking for £30million to sell the Frenchman which was a fair price.

He was one of the league’s better left-backs over the last two to three years and the likes of Chelsea and Newcastle were also keen on securing his services.

Both clubs now owned by oligarchs would be able to afford that price tag should the Toffees have played hard ball.

However, for this fee, Villa seem to have got the better end of the deal and it remains to be seen how Everton can come in his absence.

They’ve signed Vitality Mykolenko to replace him but it’s going to take the Ukrainian time to adapt to life in the Premier League.

The only reason Digne left is because of Rafa Benitez so he could be on the sacking row should performances not improve after the January transfer window.
