Medical underway: Lucas Digne on verge of Everton exit after terms agreed

Lucas Digne is undergoing his medical at Aston Villa “now” as he edges closer to leaving Everton, according to David Anderson.

Writing via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon, the Mirror journalist reported that Digne, 28, is on the verge of joining the Villans after personal terms were agreed.

It is understood that the deal sees Everton pocket £23million up front and another £5million could be paid via add-ons.

Setback

Let’s face it, we’re selling one of the best left-backs in the Premier League and one of our best offensive threats to a rival.

Aston Villa were in the Championship not so long ago and they’ve now overtaken Everton when it comes to how good the club’s future is looking.

In the Premier League table, the West Midlands club is only one place above us but with Philippe Coutinho and Digne being signed this month, as well as players like Danny Ings going there in the summer, it’s clear that they’re moving in a direction that we should be going in.

Everton

The buck stops with Everton’s ownership.

We’ve had year after year of terrible managerial appointments and year upon year of terrible player trading.

Yes, there are one of two gems in the last few years but ultimately, those gems have stopped us being drawn into a relegation battle, rather than seen us fight for domestic honours or a place in Europe.

Everton are going backwards and Farhad Moshiri must be held responsible.
