Gary Linker reacts as Everton close to Rafa Benitez sack

Gary Lineker has made a joke about Sue Gray as Everton reportedly close in sacking manager Rafa Benitez after losing 2-1 against Norwich on Saturday.

According to The Daily Mail, the Merseyside club are on the brink of parting ways with the Spaniard and will be holding a meeting about it. [Sky Sports]

Lineker saw this as a moment to bring Gray into the joke who made the headlines recently during a political scandal.

He wrote, via his personal Twitter account, “Rumours that Everton are holding an emergency board meeting. Sue Gray not believed to be involved.”

End of the road

Benitez was the wrong appointment at the wrong time and the fans were right to oppose it right from the start.

He was unlikely to win over the support of the Goodison Park faithful had he not delivered results.

Things appeared to have started well for Benitez despite his lack of quality summer signings.

Everton

Demarai Gray was the only one who arrived for a transfer fee with the rest being free agents.

However, that appeared to be a false dawn as their form nosedived ever since and failed to pick up.

He now is extremely close to being sacked and there seems to be no way back for him.

In other Everton news, the club want to sign a player labelled ‘Excellent’ by Cristiano Ronaldo with the European club keen on cashing in.
