Stan Collymore predicts Rafa Benitez sack at Everton, suggests Wayne Rooney to come in

Stan Collymore expects Everton to sack Rafa Benitez after seeing them go 2-0 down against Norwich at Carrow Road on Saturday.

Michael Keane scored an own goal in the 16th minute and two minutes later, the home side doubled their lead through Adam Idah.

Everton managed to pull one back in their 2-1 defeat as Richarlison’s goal proved to be no more than a consolation.

Feelings towards Benitez are at an all-time low and ex-Liverpool forward Collymore feels it’s time for him to be sacked.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, he said: “Goodnight, Rafa.

“That’s it surely now.”

Collymore also suggested that Wayne Rooney could be someone who the Blues turn to with the ex-Evertonian impressing at Derby despite their financial woes.

“Whatever job Rooney goes on to do, pound for pound he won’t do a better job than at Derby,” Collymore added.

“The experience will serve him as a reminder of the other side of the sport after a glittering career.

“Will be very interesting to know if Everton are tempted to give him an opportunity.”

He’s got to go

Benitez was set up to fail as soon as Everton hired him to replace Carlo Ancelotti in the summer.

It was controversial to go in for a former Liverpool manager, especially someone who did so well and is held in such high esteem at Anfield. But everything that has happened since hasn’t helped at all.

Marcel Brands has left, Financial Fair Play has wrecked the transfer windows and a fall-out with Lucas Digne saw one of the club’s best players sold to a close Premier League rival.

Injuries have also hindered our progress but Benitez’s tactics and some of his decisions in the transfer market have seen this club go backwards massively.

We’re now looking at a relegation battle.

Everton are one of few teams to have never been relegated from the Premier League since its inception.

As long as Benitez stays at the club, we would not be shocked if that changed this season.

However, we’re fully aware that the buck stops with the boardroom. That’s there the main issue is.
