Ben Grounds reacts if Duncan Ferguson would be good option for Everton
Sky Sports journalist Ben Grounds has suggested that Everton fans should not shout for Duncan Ferguson to make him their next boss, or interim boss, as there’s still a lot of games left to play for.
Rafa Benitez has been sacked by the Toffees on Sunday (16 January), the club have confirmed. The Times reported Ferguson is ready to take charge of the Merseyside club.
Former Toffees player Don Hutchison has suggested that the 50-year-old coach should be given the job, as there’s nothing left to play for the Toffees this season.

However, Grounds feel that it’s too early to write Everton off when there are lots of games left to play. He wrote on Twitter: “What I would say about “giving it to Duncan until the end of the season” or another interim until the summer is that Everton have only played 19 games. Slap bang at the halfway stage. Not too soon to cut your losses on Benitez, but too soon to write off an entire season.”
Strong words
While Ferguson would be a popular choice among the fans, Grounds has a point here.
Farhad Moshiri has pumped in loads of money in the last five years, but the Toffees failed to sign a top-class manager who could take them to the next level.
They had a chance to do that in the summer after Carlo Ancelotti left. The Toffees were linked with a host of managers but in the end, they signed someone who was never a popular figure among the fans.
With one win in the last 13 Premier League games, surely it hasn’t worked for Benitez.

The confidence is low and Benitez seemed to have lost the dressing room. He has made excuses after excuses throughout his tenure and enjoyed big powers.
Whatever the Spaniard spoke about his vision for the future, there’s no indication that he could stop the present decline.
A quality manager with a proven pedigree can still make a big difference this season. Whether Moshiri will take that route is a big question.
