Vitaliy Mykolenko opens up on Everton move

Vitaliy Mykolenko has suggested that his move to Everton this month was decided quickly and that nobody expected it to happen.

The Ukraine defender joined from Dynamo Kiev on a four-and-a-half-year deal earlier this month.

While the fee for the 22-year-old is undisclosed, it is reported to be around £17 million [BBC Sport].

Speaking to The Times he said: “My transfer was decided in a few days. Nobody expected it, including the members of my family.

“When it happened, my parents refused to believe that it was happening and it was for real. That’s how unprepared we were for this good news and now I am basically living in a dream.”

Big ask

Mykolenko is clearly a fantastic young talent but he has to prove himself in one of the best leagues in the world.

On top of that, his high price-tag will always add extra pressure over which he had no control whatsoever.

Replacing a popular figure like Lucas Digne, he will be scrutinized for his performances, but it seems he is confident about doing well.

Everton are badly struggling under Rafa Benitez but the Spaniard has the full backing of the owner.

He has been given funds to do business, and the former Real Madrid boss brought in the players of his choice.

Nathan Patterson can also prove to be a very good signing for the club. The young defender impressed during his time at Rangers, and he comes with loads of expectations.

Another player who has joined the club is Anwar El Ghazi, who has joined from Aston Villa on loan.
