Lucas Digne applauded new Everton signing Vitaliy Mykolenko in 3-2 defeat v Brighton
Lucas Digne was spotted applauding new Everton signing Vitaliy Mykolenko before the 3-2 defeat against Brighton on Sunday.
Greg O’Keeffe shared what he saw at Goodison Park, as the Ukrainian was introduced to the crowd on what proved to be a dull afternoon.
With Mykolenko arriving as soon as the window opened, he is believed to be the successor of Digne, who is set to leave the club after falling out with Rafa Benitez.
Writing in his Q&A for The Athletic, O’Keeffe shared what he noticed Digne do as his successor was introduced at Goodison Park.
“Interesting to note that Digne did, eventually, join in the applause for what could be his successor, Mykolenko, as he was given his Goodison welcome on the pitch,” he wrote.
Given everything that has been leaked regarding Digne and his falling out with Benitez, this one seems very forced.
No matter who is in the wrong out of those two, it is going to lead to the Frenchman moving on this month and leave Goodison Park behind.
Mykolenko has been brought in, with the board needing praise for moving so swiftly to get this one across the line as quickly as they did.
Digne has done enough by leaving the Toffees in a dull patch, so sitting there and not even clapping a new signing would have left him even lower in the evaluations of many.
The Digne era is certainly over, let’s hope that the Mykolenko reign can be better, and definitely longer moving forward.
