Victor Pereira and Jose Mourinho on Everton radar – Alan Myers

Everton are considering Victor Pereira and Jose Mourinho as they search for a new manager to replace Rafa Benitez, according to Alan Myers.

The Toffees have put Duncan Ferguson in temporary charge after parting ways with Rafa Benitez on Sunday, but they are looking for a permanent successor, with the Portuguese duo identified.

Mourinho is currently in charge of AS Roma while his younger countryman Pereira is without a club after leaving Fenerbahce last December.

Myers said on his personal Twitter account: “Jose Mourinho is under consideration to become the next Everton manager!”

He later added: “Victor Pereira is also being discussed in a wide-ranging search.”

Wide-ranging search?

It appears Farhad Moshiri is not willing to hand Ferguson the job on a permanent basis, and while that could change, the club are looking across the continent in their bid to bring in their sixth manager in six years.

With four titles to his name across three countries, Pereira boasts of experience and pedigree, and at 53, he could have some modern style and ideas that the Goodison Park outfit need to move to the next level.

The former Porto, Al-Ahli, Olympiacos and Shanghai SIPG boss would be easier to agree a deal with as he is currently unattached.

While Mourinho boasts of eight league titles, he has struggled in his recent jobs, with Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur all sacking him.

Nevertheless, he clearly has supporters at the board level at Everton, but it remains to be seen if the fans will be open to such an appointment after Benitez failed to impress.

Whichever manager the Blues end up landing, they surely cannot keep making the same mistakes they have made in the past when it comes to such a crucial appointment.
