Journalist’s claim over two managerial prospects narrow Everton options

The search for the next Everton manager is still ongoing but two names involved in the conversation could be about to rule themselves out, according to football consultant Ian McGarry.

Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard are the two managers in question and both would be welcomed with open arms by the Goodison Park faithful should they take on the role.

But there are now new rumours circling around the club that has put both Rooney and Lampard in doubt over taking the role on.

According to podcast host McGarry on the Transfer Window podcast, both Rooney and Lampard are sceptical about the way the club is being run which could prevent them from being appointed as manager.

“Wayne Rooney has been linked with his old club Everton after the sacking of Rafa Benitez. Frank Lampard is another who has been invited to have a conversation with representatives of Everton,” McGarry said.

“Neither are first choice, the Belgium manager Roberto Martinez is. However, it is our information that both Lampard and Rooney are extremely sceptical about the way Everton are being run.”

Can’t blame them

It is not what Everton fans want to hear but can you really argue against them here?

Farhad Moshiri has come under a lot of criticism during his time at Goodison Park with managers coming and going like there’s no tomorrow and money being thrown about left, right and centre on players.

None of which has worked and there were signs of a change in policy in the summer where the Toffees kept their money in their pockets but that has also seen them plummet to 16th in the Premier League.

Finding the right balance between spending money and not wasting money has long been the issue for Everton and the club needs a manager that can control the owners’ excitement and steer the Toffees in the right direction.
