Everton offer manager position to Italy legend Fabio Cannavaro

Everton have offered Fabio Cannavaro the manager’s job at Goodison Park, according to Italian newspaper Libero.

On 20 January, The Telegraph reported that Cannavaro, 48, had been interviewed with the view to him replacing Rafa Benitez at the Blues.

Libero have also reported via their print edition [20 January, page ] that the former Guangzhou and China manager has been offered the “bench” at Goodison Park.

It is understood that Cannavaro recently rejected the chance to manage Poland and there are also other candidates on Everton’s mind.

However, the report clearly says an offer has been made to the Italy legend, who won the 2006 World Cup as a player.

Even worse than Rafa

What is Farhad Moshiri doing?

What is going on in that head of his to think that Cannavaro would be a good replacement for Benitez?

Whether or not this story is true is one thing but just to see Cannavaro’s name linked with the new vacancy at Goodison Park suggests that we’re being steered by the blind – or the downright deluded.

Cannavaro was a superb player and is one of the best centre-backs that European football has ever seen.

However, nothing about his managerial CV suggests to us that he would be a good hire for Everton – nothing at all.

Sure, he won the Chinese Super League title in his last club job at Guangzhou. But before his four-year stint there, he’d had spells at Al-Nassr and Tianjin while he also served two matches in charge of the China national team, losing both of them.

Benitez went to China after making himself a hero among the Newcastle fans and look at all the good that did him.

We don’t want Cannavaro anywhere near this club. No, thanks.
