Kevin Campbell: Wayne Rooney can build backroom staff to take Everton places

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell has insisted that Wayne Rooney could build a backroom staff that can take Everton “places”.

The ex-Toffees talisman has questioned the experience of the Derby manager, claiming his backroom staff would be key if he was appointed.

Rooney is set to be interviewed for the role at Goodison Park, with his connections still clear with the club [Paul Joyce].

“Look, sometimes, we don’t know what his capabilities are, because Derby is a free hit for him,” he exclusively told Goodison News.

“He’s getting results, and he’s had to go younger. The bottom line is, Wayne is a lifelong Blue and could he build a backroom team that could get Everton places? I believe he could.

“The problem is, he doesn’t have the experience. So, if he’s going to come in, his number two is going to be key.

“Whether Everton want to do that or not, I understand they’re looking at a Wayne Rooney, a young manager, who is cutting his teeth at Derby.

“We have seen crazier things happen in football, but I just think Everton need to take a breather – everything needs to be looked at and assessed, this is another key moment.”

The big question mark behind this potential appointment is the experience that Rooney has gathered during his time at Derby.

Farhad Moshiri will be considering all of his options at this moment in time, but it is critical that he makes the right choice – Campbell is spot on, take a breather and don’t rush into anything.
