Don Hutchison reacts as Everton consider Vitor Pereira as option to replace Benitez

Don Hutchison has shared his reaction after reports emerged that Everton are considering Vitor Pereira as an option for the vacant manager’s position.

According to reports from The Times (23 January), the Portuguese will be the latest candidate that Everton will interview.

The 53-year-old has been on the club’s radar since 2013, and he was also been interviewed before the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti.

According to journalist Pedro Sepulveda, Pereira and his technical team are expected to travel today to sign a deal with Everton, with an agreement already said to be in place.

Hutchison reacted on Twitter: “Another gamble by Everton. Might work in the short term but who honestly knows.”

Everton are deliberating on the decision whether to bring in someone until the end of the season or make a long-term appointment.

Farhad Moshiri is learning the search for a replacement of Rafa Benitez. Duncan Ferguson, who was on the dugout in Everton’s 1-0 defeat against Aston Villa, is likely to be kept in the interim role. He probably won’t be considered for the full-time job.

The Times claimed that Everton have made contact with Wayne Rooney’s representatives and Frank Lampard as well.

Ideally, the Merseyside giants should look to appoint someone who has got either Premier League experience or a serial winner who would command instant respect from the players.

He has managed several clubs in his career, but he doesn’t fit the bill of a serial winner. It’s a huge risk to appoint him, especially for a permanent role, but as it stands, he is one of the candidates who is being considered at the moment.
