Everton still want right-back and central midfielder this month - report

Everton want to sign a central midfielder and a right-back to strengthen their squad this month, despite having no manager according to Ryan Taylor.

The Toffees already completed three signings this month, with Nathan Patterson, Vitaly Mykolenko and Anwar El Ghazi all coming in at Goodison Park before Rafa Benitez was sacked.

While the club are no closer to bringing in a replacement manager for the rest of this season and beyond, that reportedly won’t stop them in the transfer market.

According to Ryan Taylor of The Express, Everton would like to strengthen the squad with a right-back and a central midfielder and while they would like to work in correspondence with the new manager ideally, it’s a race against time now.

If the right opportunity presents itself, there is movement ‘expected before the deadline’ next Tuesday.

Poison or antidote?

The fact the club are planning to press ahead with business to strengthen the squad regardless of the manager situation can be taken in two different ways.

One could see it as a positive, with improvements obviously needed and the club willing to spend to make the team better.

But with no long-term vision for the club in place since there is no manager, who is to say that these players will fit in with whoever is brought in eventually?

Much like the signings of the month already, they were brought in under the premise that Rafa Benitez would be the manager only for him to be gone a short while later.

Improvements are needed and if Everton get the right players in then it’s great, but we won’t know the answer to that until we know the new manager and his plans for the football club.
