Kevin Campbell: Everton don’t need any more signings in January

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell has insisted that Everton don’t need to make any more new January signings in the final week of the window.

The ex-Toffees talisman believes that with injured players returning such as Dominic Calvert-Lewin, the squad is more than big enough.

Everton have already signed Nathan Patterson and Vitaliy Mykolenko, with a big fight to avoid nearing relegation now on the cards.

“They’ve brought a couple in under Rafa Benitez,” he exclusively told Goodison News.

“I just think with Calvert-Lewin coming back, they’ve got enough players there at the moment. Going out and buying, buying, buying isn’t going to necessarily solve anything, they’ve got a big squad at Goodison Park.

“Now’s the time for the players to get working, and get winning – it’s that simple, you win a few games and then you can breathe a lot easier and that plan can take shape.”

It would be a risk to not make any more signings this month.

Having said that, who is in control of bringing these players in if some do arrive? Is it Duncan Ferguson given his current interim role?

Everton are playing with fire, and risk bringing in players that a potential new manager may not like or even want in their side after arriving.

Campbell airing on the side of caution does make sense, and there is a big squad available – one that with the right management and motivation can start to pick up points.
