‘Leave Bill Kenwright alone’ rages Everton fan live on talkSPORT, wants Big Sam
Andy Goldstein and Darren Bent were left speechless by the impassioned Everton fan rant they were on the receiving end of last night on talkSPORT.
The furious Toffees fan, Steve, phoned in to speak to Goldstein about the state of his club and called for Sam Allardyce to return to fight off the threat of relegation.
In the clip, posted on talkSPORT’s Twitter page, he is heard saying: “If you want to play safe, go and get Big Sam. Please go and get Big Sam.”
An incredulous Goldstein responds: “Steve? Are you serious, you want Big Sam in?”
This set the stage for the increasingly furious supporter to rail against “jokers” who “don’t understand the club” that are being touted as the next manager, and decried board members as “people with suits and loads of money [who] are playing with our lives”.
The feeling ramped up further when Steve bellowed his defence of the chairman in comparison to the Goodison owner.
“Bill Kenwright’s an Evertonian. Yes he made mistakes in the past. Yes he lied to us and he’s been slaughtered for it but his heart is blue. Leave Bill Kenwright alone! He’s not the problem!
“[Farhad] Moshiri and [Alisher] Usmanov with all their millions are destroying our club!”
A bewildered Darren Bent is shown stunned into silence at the onslaught.
Strength of feeling
As if it needed reinforcing, and this was admittedly an extreme example, but the fans on Merseyside love their club and the mess that it is in currently hurts them deeply.
A return for Big Sam is sure to not be popular with the wider fan base, but the sentiment of rejecting outsiders in favour of those that connect to the fans would be.
It seems wild to think of Everton going down, but fans of Aston Villa and Leeds probably thought the same before they dropped out of the top flight.

A couple of wins under Duncan Ferguson would improve the outlook considerably, but the manager conundrum needs to be answered quickly.
It has already ruined the transfer window, with the incomings part of Rafael Benitez’s plans and nobody in position to conduct business since.
And considering how much of the turmoil is a mess of Moshiri’s own making it is hard to picture a way back for the man in charge, especially if the talkSPORT caller and the fans on the street last night are anything to go by.
In other Everton news, this transfer target’s preference over his move has become clear.
