Frank Lampard handed major blow already, Jody Morris won’t join him at Everton – report

Everton are set to announce Frank Lampard as their new manager this weekend, but he has already been handed a blow.

90min have reported that the former Chelsea man will not be joined by long-term associate Jody Morris at Goodison Park.

Morris was the assistant of Lampard at not only Stamford Bridge, but also during his time at Derby County all those years ago.

The reason isn’t disclosed, but it looks as though a different right-hand man will be in Merseyside with Lampard.

Farhad Moshiri and Bill Kenwright were deep in talks in London with the remaining candidates on Friday, and all of these things will have been discussed.

Lampard will likely have informed the board of his plans regarding a backroom team, and those will be in place quickly over this weekend.

Blow.

We look to have secured the main man, but losing Morris could be a blow.

The two know each other inside and out during their time together at two clubs and will have been a good double team on the sidelines at Goodison Park.

Of course, life goes on and a new assistant will be in charge before Morris can even blink and take time to think about what he has missed out on.

It will be a jam-packed weekend for everyone involved at the club, with Lampard moving north and all attention switching to transfer.

With the deadline on Monday evening, it wouldn’t surprise us if the backroom staff was left on hold to get some last-gasp transfers over the line.

Time will tell.
