Gary Lineker reacts as Everton announce Frank Lampard as manager

Everton have announced Frank Lampard as their next permanent manager on a two-and-half year deal, and Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to react.

The former Chelsea midfielder succeeds Rafa Benitez at Goodison Park after pipping both Vitor Pereira and Duncan Ferguson to the job.

Lampard will be hoping to hit the ground running upon becoming Farhad Moshiri’s sixth manager in six years, and the Match of the Day presenter has sent him his best wishes through his personal account.

Lineker said: “I wish him well.

“Great club, great guy.”

Top manager?

Moshiri has never hesitated to part with four of the last five managers, and he will be hoping to have finally gotten it right.

Benitez left Everton in more mess than he met them in, and Lampard has got a huge job on his hands, without a doubt.

Having managed Derby County and his old club at Stamford Bridge, the former midfielder has decent experience and should be able to help the Toffees get better.

He impressed Moshiri and the board during the interview process and now has to impress in the dugout pronto.

Everton have found themselves closer to the relegation zone following a woeful start to the 2021-22 campaign, and the results have to change immediately.

Lampard took over at Chelsea during a transfer ban, making good use of the youngsters, and he is now being faced with almost similar circumstances at Goodison Park.

The Blues are unable to splash the cash as they wish right now due to Financial Fair Play constraints, and the new manager has to find a way to get the best out of his current players.

In other Everton news, the Toffees are plotting January loan-to-buy bid for centre-mid hailed by Jack Grealish last month.
