Manchester United boss Rangnick gives Lingard permission to leave amid Everton interest

Everton have been handed a major boost to secure the deadline day signing of Jesse Lingard, according to Chris Wheeler.

Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick has given the England international permission to leave on loan on January 31.

The Red Devils are believed to not want to deal with their top-four rivals, and the Toffees do not fall into that category.

Via his personal Twitter account, Wheeler wrote, “Ralf Rangnick gives his blessing for Jesse Lingard to leave on loan following talks today. West Ham, Newcastle, Tottenham, Leicester, Everton and Burnley among the clubs to show an interest. Remains to be seen if Man Utd drop their demands or deal with a top-four rival.”

Stay away

It makes no sense to go for a player like Lingard who has his best days behind him.

Also, the Toffees have two players on loan from the same league so Lingard would have to be a permanent one.

Even on loan, the Englishman does not play in a position that needs immediate strengthening.

Had the club not signed Anwar El Ghazi then it could’ve made sense, but now that they have, this move is pointless.

Everton

What Everton need is possibly another midfielder with Donny van de Beek set to arrive on loan as well.

If there’s a market, a centre-back would also be ideal as Michael Keane and Ben Godfrey have struggled this season.

It remains to be seen how efficient the club are in getting deals over the line on transfer deadline day.
