Newcastle want to sign Dele Alli ahead of Everton announcement

Newcastle are making a late attempt to sign Tottenham Hotspur attacker Dele Alli who seemed destined for Everton, per David Ornstein.

According to The Athletic journalist, it is unclear whether their approach will be successful, given how late in the day they’ve registered their interest.

Toffees talks with Alli are in the final stages and Fabrizio Romano has already claimed that it is a done deal.

The report reads, “Newcastle United have made a dramatic late attempt to pip Everton to the signing of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli, after missing out on Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard.

“It is unclear whether their late move will be successful, with Newcastle making their approach in the final few hours of the window.

“The Athletic understands Newcastle want to sign the 25-year-old on a loan deal.”

Surely not?

We’ve seen dramatic deadline day u-turns happen before, but this surely isn’t history repeating itself?

All was in place for Alli to move to Everton and the negotiations were also handled quickly.

The Toffees are signing him for free as of now, but there’s going to be a lofty sum paid to Spurs in the due course.

Newcastle, on the other hand, are only offering a loan, so Spurs may not even want to deal with them.

However, they are super rich due to their Saudi ownership and they could offer Alli a sizeable pay hike and the chance to be one of the poster boys of their resurgence.

Whether or not that happens, remains to be seen.

In other Everton news, the club have made an approach to sign an English attacker before the window closes.
