Everton youngster Lewis Warrington completes deadline day loan exit

Everton have allowed youngster Lewis Warrington to leave the club on loan after he completed a deadline day exit to Tranmere Rovers.

The Toffees had a busy day of incomings on Monday, announcing the arrivals of Frank Lampard, Donny Van de Beek and Dele Alli to the first team.

That left the midfield path from the youth team a bit cluttered, and the club have allowed impressive 19-year-old Warrington to go and get regular football elsewhere for the rest of the season.

League Two club Tranmere have taken the defensive midfielder on loan and will hope that he can boost their promotion push as they currently sit second in the table.

Warrington is yet to make a first-team appearance at Goodison Park, however, is a regular for David Unsworth’s Under-23’s side and has made 13 appearances this season in the Premier League 2.

Pathway

Everton have always been a team that show pride in their youth team and have a path to the first-team available.

Even this season, Rafa Benitez fielded several youth players across the season and most notably in the game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Duncan Ferguson also fielded youth prospect Tyler Onyango most recently against Aston Villa.

But with the position the team is in currently in the Premier League, along with Lampard’s need to hit the ground running immediately, those opportunities are likely to lessen this season.

So for the club to identify and notice that, and then act on it by ensuring the players still get game time elsewhere is sensible and good to see.

Warrington now has a chance to impress to earn himself an opportunity next season, whether that’s at Goodison Park or elsewhere, while Everton can watch him develop from a distance. Everybody wins.
