Everton approach for Steve Hitchen is not imminent – report

An Everton approach for Steve Hitchen is not imminent as they look to appoint a new football director, according to The Mirror.

The newspaper has reported in their print edition (03 February) that no contact has been made yet after his exit from Spurs.

Hitchen was said to have quit the Londoners after becoming frustrated with his involvement in recent transfer windows.

Everton are looking to replace Marcel Brands, who was shown the exit door by Rafa Benitez before his own sacking.

The Toffees have wasted money massively in recent years, and the club decided to take another step at Goodison Park.

Farhad Moshiri is said to have identified Hitchen as a target, with the Blues said to be the frontrunners ahead of Newcastle.

No rush.

Even with the likes of Newcastle said to be interested, it looks as though Moshiri is taking his time with the next appointment.

That is very smart, especially given how many decisions he has got wrong in recent years when taking these huge steps.

Brands wasn’t particularly favoured in Merseyside, so whoever comes in next simply has to be the right appointment.

Given his experience in the Premier League, Hitchen would be a smart appointment, and he will have months to build a partnership with Frank Lampard ahead of the summer window.

That way, he could then build some targets and start to lay the groundwork early for summer additions.

It looks as though it could be weeks before any development or announcement in this case, though, with Moshiri rightly taking his time.
