Donny van de Beek’s Everton career could be longer than six months

Donny van de Beek was a much-needed and welcomed deadline day signing at Everton on a six-month loan from Manchester United.

The loan deal, however, does not include any kind of future fee option, whether mandatory or optional, which will see the Dutchman return to Old Trafford when this season concludes.

Things aren’t necessarily that simple though as the latest development in Manchester could suggest another player has usurped the 24-year-old in the club’s ranks.

United’s interim boss Ralf Rangnick confirmed yesterday (Thursday 3 February) that 19-year-old Hannibal Mejbri would be involved in their squad to face Middlesbrough in the FA Cup.

“He will, from now on, regularly train with us and be a regular member of the squad. He will also be part of the squad for tomorrow’s cup game,” the German said, as quoted by Manchester Evening News.

That has raised a major question regarding van de Beek’s future at Old Trafford and might open a door for Frank Lampard and Everton to pounce.

It’s been no secret that the Dutchman has not been happy with his limited game time since he arrived on British shores in 2020 and if Mejbri can take his chance, he may bump van de Beek even further down the pecking order.

But that is exactly what the Toffees want to happen. If a teenager, no matter how talented, can waltz into the United first-team and replace van de Beek, he will surely want to leave for good and that is where Everton can swoop in.

Farhad Moshiri needs to be on the ball with this and if he performs at Goodison Park this season, he needs to ensure he returns again in the next.

In other Everton news, Ashley Cole has sent a message to fans via Twitter after arriving at the club to support manager and former teammate Lampard.
