View: Everton forward Demarai Gray may now drop to bench

Demarai Gray has been outstanding this season for Everton.

Signed by Rafa Benitez in the summer for a measly fee, the former Leicester City winger has produced some virtuoso performances in a Blues shirt.

Blessed with raw pace and trickery, it’s fair to say that he has been the most consistent player for the Toffees so far.

Gary Lineker hailed him as a player with “bags of potential”, while Sky Sports pundit Tony Gale called him “brilliant” for his performance against Norwich City.

However, chances could now be highly likely that he could be dropped to the bench, and play mainly as an impact sub.

Everton signed Donny van de Beek and Dele Alli on transfer deadline day, and the duo are likely to feature heavily under Frank Lampard.

Both these players are creative playmakers who love to play behind the striker, and thus we could see Lampard using two no 10 players together.

This would also mean that there would be a change in the system as surely three-man upfront won’t work with Alli and Van de Beek behind.

On the left-wing, where Gray has been playing, Lampard will possibly use Richarlison who can be more skilful and can bring a lot more to the side.

Can Gray be shifted to the right-wing? It is a possibility but Lampard will need someone who will help defensively as well.

Anthony Gordon or probably Andros Townsend could be the best bet which means Gray could struggle for a regular starting role from here on.
