Paul Merson reacts to Yerry Mina goal for Everton v Brentford

Paul Merson has reacted as Yerry Mina got the Frank Lampard era off to a bang for Everton against Brentford in the FA Cup.

The Colombian international scored the opener at Goodison Park, powering home a crashing header from a Demarai Gray corner.

Merson shared that the Goodison crowd went “mad” with Lampard giving a huge cuddle to Duncan Ferguson alongside him.

Speaking live on Sky Sports during the game, Merson reacted as the Lampard era got off to a bang at Goodison Park.

“It’s 1-0 to Everton,” he said. “It’s from a corner from Gray, he whips it in and Mina about six yards out, heads it in.

“He doesn’t even need to jump, Henry picking him up, probably the smallest player on the pitch and he just overpowers him.

“Frank gives Duncan a cuddle, and the crowd go mad – 1-0.”

Brilliant.

This is how Goodison Park is meant to be.

Mina crashing home that header was the perfect start and the crowd went wild, something we really haven’t seen in recent years under Carlo Ancelotti and Rafa Benitez.

We wanted the players to give a huge reaction, and they did just that, but none more so than Mina.

The Colombian started on the bench and was only brought on due to an injury to Ben Godfrey, and he proved to Lampard that him not starting was a mistake.

One thing you can guarantee now is that Mina will be starting against Newcastle and most likely Leeds in the huge Premier League week to come.
