View: Frank Lampard could use Dele Alli as striker at Everton

Frank Lampard will take charge of his first game at Everton after he was appointed as the permanent boss, replacing Rafa Benitez.

The former Chelsea boss has a short managerial career and it’s hard to make a judgement of what to expect from him.

To start with, it will be different from the Benitez era.

Unlike his predecessor, Lampard believes in attacking and eye-catching football, swift transitions with a mentality to win every single game.

There’s a brilliant piece on The Athletic today (05 February) today where it has been suggested that Lampard has shown a propensity to adapt himself tactically.

That is, he is flexible and ready to change his system. With that in mind, his previous comments on Dele Alli becomes very interesting.

Alli joined Everton in the January window on a permanent deal from Tottenham Hotspur.

The 25-year-old arrives at a club with an eye to prove a point, with a burning desire to resurrect his career.

Lampard has described Alli recently as a “versatile” player, and it remains to be seen how he gets the best out of the England attacking midfielder.

In a previous interview with Sky Sports, this is what Lampard said previously about Alli:

“It’s the runs he makes when he runs behind people in the box, that’s special. It’s a bit of a gift and he’s got that gift.”

It gives an indication that Alli will be given a free role in the side, where his primary job will be to stay close to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and create scoring chances and score some goals as well.

In that case, it’s the responsibility of the other players to get the ball quickly to him. With Richarlison and Donny van de Beek around, we are likely to see Alli spending most of him in and around the box.

The talent and quality are there, what remains to be seen is which version of Alli will emerge out.
