Kevin Campbell loved what he saw Everton do vs Brentford

Kevin Campbell thinks there is a ‘new era’ at Everton after Frank Lampard’s first game as manager ended in a brilliant 4-1 win against Brentford.

The Toffees claimed a dominant victory thanks to goals from Yerry Mina, Richarlison, Mason Holgate and Andros Townsend to move into the fifth round of the FA Cup.

It was a performance that got Goodison Park on their feet and former striker Kevin Campbell said on commentary duty for talkSPORT 2 that he believes it’s the dawn of a new era for the club and their season.

“There was an urgency, a hunger, a desire to chase the ball and press,” said the ex-Blues forward.

“You’ve seen it not just on the first XI but in the substitutes as well when they’ve come on the pitch. It’s a new era and a new regime. There’s a new confidence running through the team.

“It doesn’t get much better than this. This was a difficult game against a good Brentford side, but Everton have performance. We haven’t seen them perform many times this season, but when they do perform this is what they can do.

“Obviously there has been good communication from the manager. They have delivered, so well done to him. I think this is what everyone needed, not only the manager after his year out, but the Evertonians, too.

“They were together, they were more aggressive, they weren’t rushed at the back and they played between the lines. It was outstanding.”

Hunger

It was by a distance the best Everton performance of the season and it’s no coincidence that Goodison Park was rocking and there was a good vibe around the club.

Lampard had the team playing nice football in midfield, the forwards ran the channels and were direct and defensively they were relatively solid despite conceding a penalty.

All of this and the team were without all of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Dele Alli and Donny Van de Beek too so there is even more room for improvement.

Fans can enjoy their progression and now look forward into the the rest of the season, with the hope that the momentum generated can keep the team afloat.

They currently sit in 16th place in the Premier League, four points above the relegation zone.
