Leon Osman praises ‘terrific’ Everton duo Anthony Gordon and Demarai Gray

Leon Osman has praised the performances of Everton duo Anthony Gordon and Demarai Gray this season, saying they have ‘carried this team’ at times.

The Blues earned a 4-1 win over Brentford in Frank Lampard’s first game as manager, with the two wingers starting in attack alongside Richarlison.

The Brazilian was the only one of the three to get on the scoresheet but Osman told BBC Match of the Day that the team’s performance was great while praising the front three for their ‘vital’ contributions to the result.

“The way they were prepared to run without the ball. You highlight the front three because they were such a vital part. Demarai Gray running out of position to allow space, Anthony Gordon doing the exact same behind him to create the room for Richarlison. Those three were never far away from each other.

“He’s [Gordon] been terrific of late. Him and Demarai Gray have been the main players that have carried this Everton team.”

Future is bright

There were some doubts as to how the wingers at Everton would fare under Lampard after his acquisitions of Dele Alli and Donny Van de Beek on deadline day, but the future looks bright.

Lampard put the wide men in a slightly narrower set up for this game and as a unit the attacking trio worked really well together.

With the two new signings to come into the team, as well as Dominic Calvert-Lewin expected to return from injury soon, the new manager has got plenty of options.

Add to that the fact that Andros Townsend scored as a substitute too, Lampard has some decisions to make for the next game.

But the attackers looked happy to be on the pitch in this game which is an added bonus and it showed with a performance that saw Everton score four goals for the first time in 42 games.
