Everton ace Mason Holgate in ‘awe’ of Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole
Everton defender Mason Holgate says he was in ‘awe’ when meeting new boss Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole.
The Toffees ran away 4-1 winners against Brentford at Goodison Park, advancing into the next round of the FA Cup in Lampard’s first game in charge.
Holgate was adamant that the former Chelsea players’ status in the game will help him with the players at Finch Farm.

“People around my age know exactly who he is,” Holgate told the ECHO on Lampard.
“When I was big enough to start watching football, the boss was always one of the best players and one you wanted to watch all the way through.
“With people like him and Ashley (Cole), when they come in you are a little bit in awe of them, really.
“He is a younger manager who is not out of the changing room too long so he comes in with a lot of new ideas in his coaching and what he has been doing is really enjoyable, to be fair.
“We have gone out and showed the confidence and the quality that we have got and it is something that the boss said.
“He told us he believed in the quality of the squad and we showed we have got that in us (with this result). But we have got to keep working on what we are going to do.”

Legends
The pairs trophy count speaks for itself. Lampard and Cole are household names in England with impressive careers with club and country.
The duo were very good players in their time so when they speak, the Everton players will actually want to listen to what they have got to say.
The complete opposite to the last two outdated dinosaurs whose best years in management are well behind them.
Lampard showed very promising signs at Derby and Chelsea respectively but wasn’t afforded the luxury of patience once the check book was unsuccessfully opened at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues need to avoid making the same mistake and stick with their man.
He would have learned from those mistakes and with the influence of new additions Cole and Duncan Ferguson as well as the rest of his staff, the 43-year-old has enough tools for success.
The weekends win was a great start which gives everyone involved with the club something to build on.
In other Blues news, Frank Lampard must understand key Everton issue for Everton success.
