Mason Holgate delivers ‘huge’ message to Everton teammates
Everton defender Mason Holgate has delivered a ‘huge’ message to his Blues teammates ahead of their clash with Newcastle.
The 25-year-old featured as the Toffees eased past Brentford 4-1 in the FA Cup in Frank Lampard’s first game in charge.
Holgate is adamant that the hard work starts now, urging his teammates to translate their quality into points.

“It’s not only the result that has got us started but the performance as well,” Holgate told ECHO.
“I think we were dominant throughout the game and showed the quality in the team. We have got to keep that going in the big game at Newcastle.
He added “Ultimately, proving to people on the outside is not going to make the difference. We need to do it ourselves.
“People will say what they want to say. We are not proving our quality for them or to prove a point. We have got to get points on the board. It’s simple.
“We know in the changing room and at Finch Farm the quality that we have got. But it’s no use saying. It’s easy to believe it but it has got to translate into points.
“That is what it is all about. We have got to do it consistently. There is a huge game on Tuesday, and we have got to turn it around. It’s one thing saying we have got quality, but it is about winning games. We have got to do that now.”

Maintain levels
Everton have an abundance of talent in their squad which for the most part of the season has been wasted with their position in the Premier League serving as proof.
It was clear to see under Rafa Benitez that it was the players’ effort that was the issue with not enough of them giving their all for the badge.
However, they will all be looking to get themselves into Lampard’s good books which means their effort levels are likely to go through to roof.
It has been seen time and time again though. A new manager comes in and injects a temporary lift in terms of performances and the feeling around the club but shortly after it goes flat.
The former Chelsea boss is very good with the players having not been one himself not so long ago, but he must take his man management to the next level.
He needs to keep the dressing room on his side and the results will follow synonymously with the love of the fans.
